The beauty of Venice has been sang by thousands of poets and trobadours. The magnificent Lagoon where all the islands cluster, linked by innumerable bridges has fired the imagination of millions of travellers. Many stories, fact and fiction have been written about the "Bride of the Adriatic". My humble hommage to this magnificent City comes straight from the heart. I walked its narrow streets, crossed its bridges and stood in awe in front of its sumptious Palazzos. But the sea is taking its toll of the lovely City. Some of its building are crumbling, eaten by the sea that cherished them. There is a worldwide effort to save Venice. I wholehartedly pray that they succeed and our grandchildren and great- grandchildren can still gaze and marvel at such magnificence. |
