The Tibus or Taedas or Tedas, as they are variably called are not Berbers.Their origin is from the Sudan and they have settled in the region South of the Sebha Oasis around the Tibesti Mountains and in Chad and Niger. They are semi-nomadic, although in the past they have been marauders, competing with the Tuaregs in plundering the Caravans. They are also newcomers in Islam, converting only in the 1800's and they retain much of their traditional animistic practices. Their women like the Tuaregs, are uncovered. I have not been able to find much on the Tibus, either in the Net or in any encyclopedias. I guess they are one of the lesser known peoples of the Sahara. Their garb is similar to the Tuaregs' but their favourite colour is white. |
