The River Niger, second in lenght African river after the Nile, rises in the West in the country of Gabon, goes northwards across Mali, doubles southwards through Niger to Nigeria where it meets the River Benue and exits in the Bight of Biafra forming the Niger Delta.
It is a mighty river quite wide in places, and an ancient channel of communications for the People living near its banks.

A mangrove

The mangroves are areas in the river where trees and bushes have their roots in the water and line most of the lagoons and creek banks. We have not ventured very far inside them as they told us that is where the crocodiles nest.

We did see crocodiles basking in the sun.

as well as being sold as meat in the stands lining the river roads.
