The above words were written by a little girl, sixty -plus years ago,
in the middle of the most devasting most cruel War Humanity has ever known.

The little girl perished.

Her words come today to make us ask ourselves: WHAT have we done about changing the World?
We all know the answer to that!
NOT MUCH!

On the 10th of December 1948, while half the planet lay in devastation, and while millions of refugees where shuffled form one place to the other, while Nations still mourned their dead and missing, the United Nations Organization, newly reconstructed, formulated the chapter on the Declaration of Human Rights, which most of the Nations signed.

The Man and Woman in the Street saw a glimmer of Hope! "No more Wars" they said. Ironically at that same time there were wars going on continuing or starting. Small ones perhaps but still innocent people were slaughtered in the Name of Something or Other. Greece, Israel, Korea, Algeria, Cyprus, The Congo, Kenya, later on, Vietnam, Cambodia, Mozambique, lately Bosnia, Kosovo and so on and so forth! 52 years after the Declaration of Human Rights, what has been achieved? Again: NOTHING MUCH!

So, What Can You or I Do?.

If we are priviledged enough to live in a country where we can decide with our votes or voices feely, we do have some resources. But before we go and write our Prime Ministers, our Congressmen or our various Representatives, there is one essential thing each and every one of us must do:

Look Within Ourselves.

No World Peace can be achieved if there is no Peace within us! Let us look deep inside us and ask ourselves these questions:

Do We Accept All Human Beings as equal, regardless of their beliefs, race or social status?

Are we ready to embrace the Human Race as one Indivisible Unity sharing a common Space with the same basic needs ?

Do we Care about that Space we share, and ALL its creatures?

If there is even one "No" as an answer above, then we had better forget the whole thing, because then, we are just Hypocrites, as all those who mouth out platitudes about Peace and Harmony in the World, just to get our votes!

So before looking for Peace in the World, let us look for Peace in ourselves! Then we can go forward!
