1970-1971
Italy was an Intermezzo. In-betrween transfers to foreign assignments. We were supposed to stay there for a month for some seminars etc. that Klaus had to attend before we proceeded to W.Africa. In the event we stayed six months. Although it was the wrong time of the year (end of November- end of May), it gave us the opportunity to come to know part of this wonderful country.
Our "Base" was Ravenna, an enchanting city dating back to the 4th century AD. Within short distances from Ravenna was Venezia, Firenze, Milano, Trentino, San Marino, all of which we explored thoroughly, in spite of the snow and rain.
We returned many times to Italy in later years, but these six months stay vivid in my mind for the sheer joy of discovery they meant to me.
My memories are all gathered below: Click on the button with the Place name and a new window will take you there. To return here, just shut the window.
Bon Voyage.
