Whenever I think of Firenze one image dominates all others: Michelangelo's David. I first saw the replica in the Piazziale Michelangelo and I had to go and see the Original in the Galleria dell' Academia. It was love at first sight. The only other statue to touch me so much is the Hermes of Praxiteles in the Museum of Olympia. Both statues go beyond the realm of Art. They are the souls of the Artists searching for Divine Perfection.

Ponte Vecchio

A view of Pontevechio on the Arno River
one of the most famous bridges of Firenze.
On Pontevecchio there are many jewelry shops where one can find the world re-known Florentine work in gold and silver. I spent endless hours in front of their windows ... dreaming.

No mention of Firenze would be complete without the name of Lorenzo the Magnificent (1449-1492) the scion of da Medici family who, continuing in his father's Cosimo's footsteps, with his patronage of the Arts contributed greatly in the Renaissance movement. He was the one that gathered painters sculptors and architects to the city and gave her most of her treasures. Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, Boticelli and many others were all in his court.

Florence is a paradise for Art lovers. There is nowhere else in the world where one can find so many masterpieces all gathered in one place. A truly memorable City.
